Dear B&F Colleagues:
I am sure many of you are aware of Governor Whitmer’s recent announcement that in-person work can resume in Michigan on May 24. In case there is confusion, I want to clarify that this decision does not impact our plans in B&F or change what was previously communicated. Unless you have been instructed otherwise by your supervisor, all B&F staff should plan to continue working in their current mode (in-person, hybrid or fully remote) until the end of September.
In addition, although the CDC and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have changed their face covering guidance for those who are fully vaccinated, U-M’s policy will remain unchanged for now. On campus, masks are no longer required outdoors in groups of fewer than 100 people, however they continue to be required in campus buildings. President Schlissel is expected to discuss the Governor’s announcement and CDC guidance in his campus town hall this Friday, which I encourage you to attend. Please refer to the Maize and Blueprint website for the most recent university requirements.
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, managers are currently in the process of assessing what is needed to support our campus community, in anticipation that students and faculty will return for an in-person fall semester. We have also convened a working group to inform our planning about the future of work in B&F and help us balance functional needs with employee preferences. We will provide updates about this work on an ongoing basis. Thank you for your continued patience and flexibility as we navigate the road ahead.
The ongoing pandemic, combined with concerns about the future of work, is continuing to create a stressful situation for all of us. It is important that we take time to attend to our mental health and wellbeing. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, our B&F Diversity Working Group has partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to offer a wonderful workshop, “Caring for Others & Caring for Yourself in Trying Times.” The workshop is open to B&F staff and will be offered twice: please register for either Tuesday, May 25, from 9:00-10:30 a.m. or Thursday, May 27, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. I encourage you to participate if your schedule allows.
Finally, just a quick reminder that the B&F Employee Engagement Survey is now open. Please look for an email from the B&F Survey Team for your survey link. I hope you will take a few minutes to provide your feedback. Thanks to everyone who has already done so!
