The Road Ahead (05/03/2021)

Dear Colleagues:

Today I officially step into the role of interim EVPCFO. I am honored to serve B&F during this time of transition and look forward to working with each of you. My overarching goals are to keep us on a steady path and to ensure all of you have the support and resources you need to Make Blue Go.

For those of you who don’t know, I have been with the University of Michigan for nearly two years. I am originally from North Carolina, and prior to joining U-M, I worked in a variety of finance-related roles at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. I was drawn to Michigan for two reasons. The first was this institution’s world-class reputation as a top public university. The second, and perhaps more important, was the positive and inclusive culture work happening here in B&F and the opportunity to be a part of such a special organization. I want you to know that I am personally committed to continuing this important work.

I am also committed to supporting you through the uncertain road ahead. There is still a lot we don’t know about the COVID situation and the future of work, which is understandably making a challenging situation even more stressful. While I can’t promise to have all of the answers right away, I can assure you that the entire leadership team is dedicated to creating a path forward as quickly as possible. You have my commitment to keep you informed just as soon as decisions are made and new information becomes available.

During this time, I welcome your input and feedback, so please feel free to email me directly. I also want to encourage you to participate in the upcoming B&F employee engagement survey. The survey results will help us to better understand the impacts of the last year, as well as identify how to improve the experience of our teams. I hope you will take a few minutes to take the survey when it becomes available on Thursday, May 13.

While I will not try to replace Kevin’s Friday messages during this interim time (I think we can all agree that Kevin’s messages would be difficult for anyone to replicate), I will plan to communicate with you regularly. I also hope to have the chance to meet many of you, either through “walkabouts” on campus or via zoom meetings. For me, having the opportunity to learn more about the incredible work that happens across B&F is one of the most exciting aspects of serving in this interim role.

Thank you for your continued, dedicated service to the university. I am grateful to be a part of such an incredible group of people and I look forward to supporting you during this interim period. Go Blue!

Sincerely,

Brian
