On January 19, 2015, the B&F Diversity Committee hosted their 25th Annual B&F MLK Convocation with keynote speaker and graffiti artist Erik Wahl. Wahl shared an energetic and visual presentation entitled Embracing the Art of Change.” He challenged the audience to unlock their individual creativity and spoke of unity not uniformity,” emphasizing his points by speed painting iconic portraits of LeBron James, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. Doug Strong reinforced this message in an email following the event, encouraging B&F staff to take Erik’s message to heart and be reminded that the organizational strategy with the biggest payoff is not diversity OR excellence” but rather diversity FOR excellence.”
The student group, Photonix, delighted the audience during the opening and closing of the event with their glowsticking performances.
Approximately 900 people attended this year’s event at Rackham Auditorium, with another 400+ people viewing the live streaming broadcast. This set a new record for the largest participation at a B&F MLK Convocation event ever!
