A redesigned University Human Resources website at hr.umich.edu launched on August 13. To make the site more user-friendly for faculty and staff, the UHR Communications team focused on improving the site’s organization and navigation, updating content, and incorporating a modern design that supports the U-M brand. The redesign brings all UHR departments and service areas together under a single website. With a consistent look and feel, the new site provides visitors with an improved web experience and helps showcase the breadth of HR services available to the university.
Over the course of 18 months, the redesign process was guided by web traffic data, interviews with faculty and staff across the university, and the insights and advice of many colleagues across UHR. The communications team worked closely with two local firms specializing in web development and information architecture to develop a new structure comprised of three main areas: Working at U-M, Benefits and Wellness, and About UHR. New features such as expanding menus and related content promotions help users quickly make connections and find the information they need. The responsive design displays information optimally on any device, including desktops, phones and tablets.
