Kevin’s Desk: Boosting Safety at U-M (4/9/2021)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

While healthcare professionals continue to address rising COVID rates in our state, there is hope that the pandemic will eventually come to an end. Here in Michigan, all residents aged 16 and older are now eligible to receive a vaccine. There are many local opportunities to sign up for a vaccine, including at the new Ford Field vaccination site in Detroit. If you haven’t yet received your vaccine, I encourage you to check out this helpful page created by UHR that explains vaccination eligibility and how to request an appointment. Thank you to our colleagues in UHR for creating these resources.

I also want to applaud the efforts of our colleagues in the F&O – Environment, Health & Safety team who have managed U-M’s contact tracing. This massive undertaking has been, and continues to be, essential to mitigating spread of the virus. Contact tracing entails calling folks who have tested positive for COVID-19 to gather information about their close contacts and give guidance on proper isolation procedures. Many of the EHS team members have pivoted their roles to help with this important work, modeling a great example of the innovation and flexibility that has been required to support our campus during this time. You can read more about their work on our website. Please join me in thanking our EHS colleagues for their tireless efforts – Y’ALL ROCK!!

Thank you all for all you do to keep our campus safe and Make Blue Go!

With much appreciation and gratitude,
