From Kevin’s Desk: You Rock! (06/30/17)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

Wow, what a great week! I hope you all had a chance to attend the amazing celebration of 200 years of staff contributions to the University of Michigan at the MSTAFF200 event on Tuesday. Every detail was exceptional: the flash mob on the Diag, the delicious “bicentennial bites” by Michigan Dining, your musical performances, the historical relics and photos of staff through the ages, I could go on and on!  Our own AVP-HR Laurita Thomas had the vision and, along with a dedicated planning committee and more than 600 volunteers from across campus, it was brought it to life for all of us to enjoy. Bravo to all of you and many thanks for MSTAFF200! Please join me in congratulating everyone involved, and take a minute to check out some wonderful event photos on our website!

I spent most of Tuesday at MSTAFF200. It was so meaningful to see B&F’s impact everywhere I turned. Construction Services crafted the 10,000 beautiful wooden blocksgiven out as commemorative gifts at the event. Voices of the Staff and our own Jack Janveja are behind the new public art tribute to staff, which President Schlissel unveiled during his remarks. And with leadership from event co-chairs Tina Jordan and Tim Kennedy, scores of B&F volunteers in yellow T-shirts helped make MSTAFF200 happen. I am so proud of the leading role B&F played in creating and organizing MSTAFF200—and how flawlessly you pulled it off. AMAZING!

As you probably know by now, I enjoy meeting people from across the Business & Finance portfolio. This week I had the pleasure of visiting with one of our two teams of custodians who care for the North Campus Research Complex. The buildings are beautifully maintained and it was wonderful to experience how much they and their work are appreciated by the many people who they serve. I even learned a new phrase that you may hear me repeat, “Lead, follow, or get out of the way”. A big shout-out to my new friends at NCRC. Job well done!!!

I hope that you enjoy this coming 4th of July holiday weekend. It is a great time to connect with family and friends of all cultures to celebrate the birth of our nation.

To all of you who do so much to make this university great: You Make Blue Go! And, You Rock!!

With much appreciation and gratitude,
