From Kevin’s Desk: We really are in this together (4/10/2020)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

While COVID-19 continues to pose unprecedented challenges to our world, it has also been incredibly heartening to see so many acts of kindness and generosity – including here in B&F. Despite all of the bad news in the world right now, my spirits are regularly lifted as I continue to hear about all the ways our B&F community is working together to support each other and our campus. Thank you!

Our colleagues in UHR have been working around the clock to adjust benefits, develop guidelines, and provide a tremendous number of resources to ensure university employees are supported throughout this constantly changing situation. You can find resources on nearly every topic related to COVID-19 on the UHR website. Please join me in thanking the entire UHR team for their dedication to our employees. Y’ALL ROCK!!

The SSC communications team has employed some creative strategies to keep their teams connected in typical SSC-style. This week they’ve all participated in the SSC spirit week, adding fun themes to their meetings, supporting gratitude and creating uplifting videos like this one that are guaranteed to make you smile. You can read more about these activities on our B&F website.

In addition, teams across B&F continue to adapt and adjust their work in countless ways to meet the changing needs of our campus. Finance’s Print-Copy-Mail team has created innovative scheduling solutions to provide on-demand support to Michigan Medicine and other high-impact areas of campus. Finance’s Risk Management team is exploring ways to adapt many of our summer camps and other “Children on Campus” programs to virtual-learning experiences. And F&O’s Grounds Services team has rapidly adjusted their work to support campus sanitation efforts, as well as taken increased measures to prevent erosion from the heavy rainfall. You can read more about these fantastic (and flexible) efforts on our B&F website.

Last, but not least, if you haven’t seen it, check out this heartwarming video of the Washtenaw County first responders honoring the frontline healthcare providers at Michigan Medicine. It is such a wonderful reminder that we are, in fact, all in this together. Thank you for everything you’re doing to support our medical colleagues, our campus and each other.

With much appreciation and gratitude,

Kevin
