One of the most amazing aspects of working at the University of Michigan is the opportunity to support groundbreaking research. Our faculty are the leaders and best in so many fields as they work to solve the greatest challenges of our time through discovery and innovation. Our work in B&F to Make Blue Go ensures that our faculty have the resources and physical environments necessary for their research to happen. I just couldn’t be prouder!
Our Finance colleagues in the Sponsored Programs Office support research directly. This team of professionals helps manage the more than $1 BILLION the university receives annually from government and private sources to support research. Among the many services they provide, Sponsored Programs partners with the Office of Research to offer professional development and training to research administrators across campus providing them with the information and tools to comply with federal, state and grant laws, regulations and requirements. You can learn more about their innovative training and support programs on our website. Please join me in thanking the Sponsored Programs team for all they do – you guys ROCK!
Some of the most amazing research takes place in Michigan Medicine. If you have ever experienced a major health event or gone through it with a family member you know the power of medical research. A wonderful example is the story of Dr. Robert Bartlett, a U-M alumnus and pediatric surgeon who invented a lifesaving medical device called ECMO. Watch this video to learn more about how ECMO changed one little boy’s life, but grab a tissue first – it’s very moving! I hope you know that your dedicated service makes stories like this possible. We should all feel so great about what we do for the University of Michigan.
With much appreciation and gratitude,
