From Kevin’s Desk: Thank You!! (8/28/2020)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

It’s been one year since the opening of the university’s very first Staff Ombuds Office. Jacquie Bowman and her team provide confidential and informal support for staff who need help to resolve workplace conflicts and concerns. In their first year, the Staff Ombuds Office has offered warm, non-judgmental support for hundreds of university staff on the Ann Arbor and Michigan Medicine campuses, free of charge. Their positive impact has been felt across the university, and I am so grateful for the important work they do. Please join me in congratulating the Staff Ombuds Office on an outstanding first year –Y’ALL ROCK!! You can read more about Staff Ombuds Office and the services they provide on their website; or, if you need support, you can request a confidential appointment here.

As part of the efforts underway to ensure a safe fall semester, our colleagues in F&O Logistics, Transportation & Parking have detailed new routes and policies that will be in place to keep transit riders and drivers safe, including increasing ventilation, reducing riders, redesigning routes, and providing additional cleaning. Most importantly, everyone on the bus will be required to wear a face mask. You can read more about these new efforts in The Record. Thanks to everyone in LTP for their hard work and dedication to keeping our community safe.

In addition, to help keep the campus and broader community healthy, the university has launched the Wolverine Culture of Care initiative, which provides education on preventative behaviors and promotes collective responsibility related to COVID-19. The Wolverine Culture of Care calls for the entire campus community to commit to key behaviors, including monitoring themselves for symptoms, practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings, frequent hand washing, following guidelines for gatherings and continuing to stay informed. Student Life has also launched a Michigan Ambassadors program to promote and monitor these behaviors among our students.

Ensuring a safe fall semester will take commitment from everyone. I am so proud of all the work our B&F teams are doing to create the safest possible environment for our returning students. Whether you’re doing your part on campus or by working remotely, you are Making Blue Go safely – thank you!!

With much appreciation and gratitude,
