I love seeing all the innovative ways our teams embrace the future and utilize technology to make work processes more effective and efficient. For example, the Facilities & Operation’s Information Services team have developed a barcode scanning app that now allows staff to monitor work orders and receive or provide real-time updates about projects on their phones or tablets while out in the field. They have also deployed technology that gives authorized technicians access to the schematic drawings of buildings and building systems which is incredibly valuable in dealing with a mechanical issue. This important work is making it easier for our maintenance staff, electricians, and many others in F&O to do their jobs while also saving the university time and resources. What an excellent example of saying, “yes, how might we?” to support our customers and our colleagues! You can learn more about this new app on our website.
As many of you know, executive officers are initially hired for five-year terms and I will be celebrating my five-year anniversary in April – time flies! I have had a number of people ask about my plans, so I want to officially announce I will be continuing in my role as your chief financial officer. The Regents approved my continuing appointment at their meeting yesterday. I am more excited than ever about the positive organization we are working to create. Great things are ahead for all of us – I am so glad we are on this journey together.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Betty and I spent the holiday with our sons and other relatives. Spending time with family and friends is so important! Relationships are the things that matter most in life, so I hope you’ll spend time with the ones you love during this holiday season.
With much appreciation and gratitude,
P.S., Please post for staff who don’t have regular access to email.
