This week I had the pleasure of attending three events that made me so proud to be a part of the University of Michigan. The first was the annual service awards dinner to celebrate our colleagues reaching milestone anniversaries of 30 or more years of service to the university. The commitment, knowledge and institutional memory assembled in one room was so powerful to witness. Our own Laurita Thomas, associate vice president for human resources, was honored for her exceptional 45 years at U-M. Please join me in congratulating Laurita and all service award recipients!
On Tuesday, I joined many colleagues from across the university at President Schlissel’s annual leadership breakfast. The President talked about his priorities for the next year and our third century, including a new precision health initiative and expanding public engagement. With the final bicentennial celebrations taking place later this month, he also reflected on our remarkable past. I encourage you to check out his full remarks and consider how your work contributes to the university’s amazing initiatives and accomplishments. I also encourage you to attend one or more of the bicentennial events, particularly the dedication of the magnificent piece of outdoor art commemorating staff contributions to making the University of Michigan the outstanding institution that it is today! Watch your email as there will be announcements about these upcoming events.
At the kickoff of the B&F Leadership Forum yesterday, which is a monthly meeting of the more than 180 leaders from across our organization, we shared highlights of the many accomplishments on the tactics from the FY17 B&F Strategic Plan. Each and every one of you contributed to these achievements and I couldn’t be prouder of your work or more grateful for your dedicated service.
The big rivalry game between U-M and MSU happens Saturday evening. I hope that you will enjoy it with your family and friends. GO BLUE!
With much appreciation and gratitude,
