I am excited to share with you the B&F Three-Year Strategic Plan. You will note that the plan is divided into two parts: Part 1 is about our workplace and Part 2 is about our work.
Part 1 is focused on creating a positive organization — a workplace where everyone knows that what they do matters and believes that they can make a difference. Over the next three years, we want to create a culture within B&F where each of you is empowered to make a difference for those we serve, feel recognized and valued as an individual and teammate, and have the support and job opportunities needed to develop to your full potential.
Where are we now in creating a positive workplace? We have selected nine key findings from the Climate Survey that connect to our strategic goals as indicators of where we are now. To me, it says that we have strengths on which to build and areas of opportunity for growth. But creating a positive organization and making real change requires all of us to get involved. I hope each of you will contribute ideas and participate in discussions. I also want to challenge each of you to commit to identifying one way you personally will help us create a positive work environment. Our workplace belongs to all of us and we all need to take responsibility for making it what we want it to be.
Part 2 of our plan is focused on the work we do for the university. In one way or another, each of us is responsible for taking care of the university’s assets – our facilities or grounds, financial resources, employees, information, or the university’s reputation, every area of B&F provides critical stewardship. Part 2 includes the major initiatives each area of B&F is working on to Make Blue Go even better. Be sure to talk with your leader to learn more about the specific efforts underway in your division.
Here’s a short video to give you an overview of the plan as we kick off this work together.
We’ll be talking about the strategic plan a lot in the coming weeks and months. I look forward to hearing your voice in these conversations!
I had a great lunch with about 20 of our colleagues from across B&F. There were folks from many areas including Human Resources, Facilities and Operations, Finance, and Shared Services. These lunches are so much fun for me and I always come away in awe of the incredible people I get to work with every day. I am so appreciative of the opportunity to be a member of the University of Michigan family and to have the opportunity to get to know each of you.
With much appreciation and gratitude,
