At the U-M DEI Summit this week, Chief Diversity Officer Rob Sellers shared the university-wide DEI progress report, which I encourage you to review. While we have made some significant progress over the last four years, both across the university and in B&F, we remain absolutely dedicated to creating an even more diverse, equitable and inclusive campus environment. Ensuring that everyone in B&F has the opportunity to thrive is not only essential to creating a positive organization, it will also make us stronger and more effective. I invite you to learn more about our DEI efforts by looking over our Year 5 B&F DEI Strategic Plan.
One highlight from our DEI work last year is that more than 1,350 events and activities took place across B&F to help foster a more positive and inclusive organization, which was up from 475 in FY19! A key reason for this increase is due to the amazing work of our positive energizers who successfully engaged 90% of our 2,700 staff in hundreds of activities designed to create a more positive and inclusive work environment. The positive energizers were recently congratulated via a special video message from two renowned experts in positive leadership, U-M Professor Kim Cameron, from the Center for Positive Organizations, and business consultant Jim Mallozzi. As you’ll see in the video, they are impressed and excited by both our positive energizers and our entire B&F staff.
Last, but not least, Organizational Learning has created a new session to help people deal with difficult conversations during this time, Creating Common Ground for a Kinder, Better Future: Growing the Capacity to Listen and Connect in Politically Charged Times. Sounds like a timely resource all of us could use — thanks to the OL team!
Hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween and don’t forget to vote!
With much appreciation and gratitude,
