Today is Arbor Day, and this week the Arbor Day Foundation recognized the university as a Tree Campus USA for the 10th consecutive year– wow! Our crew of foresters care for the more than 17,000 trees on university grounds. Along with the entire Grounds Services team, they ensure that our campus remains one of the most beautiful in the nation. Please join me in congratulating them on this honor and thanking them for their dedicated stewardship of our campus, which provides us an amazing place to work – you guys ROCK!
One way we can all help keep our campus beautiful is by exploring alternative modes of transportation. Many of you know that I love cars, but driving alone in a car is not great for the planet or our quality of life, especially with the traffic and parking challenges we face on campus. To make alternative commuting easier and more fun, our colleagues in Logistics, Transportation and Parking help sponsor the Ann Arbor Commuter Challenge. I encourage each of you to participate by committing to bus, bike, walk, vanpool or carpool throughout the month of May. You can win awesome prizes by signing up and logging your commutes! Find out more on the Commuter Challenge website.
And speaking of increased traffic and congestion – it’s Spring Commencement weekend! Nothing beats seeing proud families on campus to celebrate their students’ amazing achievements. Special thanks to all of you who work behind the scenes to roll out the welcome mat and ensure that our commencement events are wonderful, safe and memorable. Thank you, and Go Blue!
With much appreciation and gratitude,
