From Kevin’s Desk: On call all the time (3/22/19)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

Making Blue Go is like running a city – it never shuts down! The Facilities Service Center is one of the many F&O offices that provides service 24/7, 365 days a year. This impressive team fields calls for maintenance services from across campus — in January alone they answered more than 7,000 calls and created over 6,000 work orders! Our entire campus relies on this team’s efforts to dispatch the appropriate staff to keep us up and running. Please join me in thanking the Facilities Service Center team for being there when we need them – you can read more about them on our B&F website. Y’ALL ROCK!!!

And speaking of teams that are on call ALL the time, I want to give a huge shout out to our university colleagues in the Department of Public Safety and Security for their incredible work over the weekend to manage the possible active shooter situation on central campus. Director Eddie Washington and his team are true professionals who care about our entire community. We are so fortunate to have them protecting us every day and YA’LL ROCK TOO!!!  Thankfully the incident turned out to be a false alarm, but it serves as a good reminder to review our emergency procedures. I encourage you to take a look at the video and other materials on the DPSS website, which review the “run, hide, fight” protocol. Hopefully we will never need to use these learnings in a real situation, but it is important to be prepared just in case.
