From Kevin’s Desk: Making time for what matters… (5/3/19)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

Last Thursday, more than 130 kids got a firsthand look at how their parents Make Blue Go during Take Your Child to Work Day. In addition to learning more about what their moms and dads (or in some cases, guardians or grandparents) do at work, the kids also participated in fun activities, including a tour of the Big House and a bus ride to the new Museum of Natural History. A huge thank you to everyone involved in organizing these great events across B&F. As a parent, I know how meaningful it is to share your workplace with your kids—for you, and for them. And who knows, it might just serve as a tool to recruit the next generation of B&F staff! You can check out wonderful photos from the day on our B&F website.

And speaking of kids, our Health System Children’s Center recently hosted their annual art auction, featuring beautiful artwork both by local artists and by the children themselves. Check out the cute photos online! Proceeds from the auction will help to support a new play structure at the center. I want to thank everyone who donated, purchased artwork or otherwise contributed to this wonderful community partnership. The Children’s Centers play a vital role at the university and the B&F professionals who run them make such a difference in the lives of U-M faculty, staff, students and their families. YOU ROCK!!!

Last but not least, happy May! The weather is finally getting warmer, which is a good reminder to plan your summer vacation if you haven’t already. It’s so important to take the time to unplug from work and really connect with your loved ones or pursue what’s important to you outside of work. I’m a firm believer that making time for what really matters will help Make Blue Go even better.

With much appreciation and gratitude,
