From Kevin’s Desk: Leadership Transitions (11/02/2018)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

With deep gratitude for their dedication and service, I want to share with you that two of our senior B&F leaders have announced their plans to retire.

Associate Vice President for Finance Nancy Hobbs will retire from the university at the end of this month. Nancy has served in Finance since 2006, and in the AVPF role since 2014. Under her leadership, the Finance team has provided exceptional stewardship of the university’s financial resources and outstanding service to our customers across campus. Nancy is not only a trusted technical expert, but also a caring and compassionate leader, truly dedicated to supporting her team. And she is a wonderful friend and colleague. I am thrilled that Nancy may return to B&F in the future to assist with special projects. I will serve as interim AVPF while we search for an exceptional candidate to succeed Nancy.

In addition, after 46 years of service to the university, including 15 years as Associate Vice President for Human Resources, Laurita Thomas has also announced her plans to enter phased retirement by October 2019. For more than four decades, Laurita has advocated tirelessly for staff, spearheaded countless efforts to create a more positive workplace, and cultivated deep relationships across the university as a trusted colleague, mentor, and friend. Laurita will stay on in her role through the transition to a new AVPHR.

We will begin the search process to fill both of these critical roles in the coming months. While these are bittersweet announcements for all of us who work with Nancy and Laurita—including me—I am so grateful for their outstanding leadership and dedication to the university. Both have developed extremely strong and capable leadership teams who will ensure the transition process is as smooth as possible for UHR and Finance staff.

Please join me in thanking both Nancy and Laurita for their tremendous contributions and personal commitments to making this university great.

With much appreciation and gratitude,

Kevin
