From Kevin’s Desk: Keeping U-M Safe and Secure (6/12/2020)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

In addition to the health and safety concerns inherent in the COVID-19 pandemic, economic concerns continue to rise across the country. I am so grateful for the incredible work of our financial teams to ensure the university’s financial standing is secure during this time. I want to give a special shout out to everyone in the Treasury Office for, yet again, securing the highest credit ratings available from Standard & Poor’s (AAA) and Moody’s Investor Services (Aaa). Our credit rating is an important indicator of the university’s financial health, and is vital to our ability to attract investors for our bonds. Earning both of these ratings for an academic institution is extremely rare, even in the best of times, and it is truly astounding given the current situation. More importantly, it has allowed us to secure much of the financing necessary to navigate our current economic challenges at very low cost.  Please join me in giving a huge thank you to the Treasury team and to everyone whose hard work helped make this incredible result possible – YOU ROCK!!!

As research staff gradually return to campus, F&O’s Environment, Health and Safety teams have been busy developing safety guidelines along with educational materials and trainings designed to ensure we adhere to the best possible public health procedures and keep staff on campus safe.  As part of these efforts, EHS partnered with our resident videographer, Aliyah Mitchell, to produce an informative video explaining the importance of wearing face coverings and how to use them properly. While many of us will continue to work remotely for the time being, I encourage everyone to watch the video and share it with your friends and family.

We’re continuing to post new spotlights on B&F essential staff during the month of June. You can learn about the essential work happening in F&O’s Hospital Maintenance and Custodial & Grounds Services, Finance Print-Copy-Mail and more featured on our website.

Thanks for all you do to keep our campus safe and secure. Now and always: You Make Blue Go!!

With much appreciation and gratitude,
