Each year thousands of children and teens interact with university employees and students through university programs and events that take place both on and off campus. As you may have noticed, many kids attend summer camps here – athletics, writing, science, drama, and the list goes on! U-M’s Children on Campus policy, which is administered by Risk Management Services, was developed in 2014 to create a positive environment that promotes children’s health, wellness, safety and security while they are participating in university activities. Risk Management recently launched a new and easy-to-use Children on Campus website that offers comprehensive information and resources, along with details on how to register and report on children’s programs.
We need your help getting the word out! If you hear of any events that involve hosting children on or off campus, please ask if they know about the policy and send them to the new website. We can all help ensure the safety of children at the university, so I really appreciate your help spreading the word! And a huge thank you to our colleagues in Risk Management for providing these critical resources – YOU ROCK!
It was great to meet a number of you at my monthly breakfast this week! The conversations were interesting and engaging. One of the best parts of my job is getting the chance to hear about what you all do to support the university, as well as learning more about your backgrounds and your lives outside of work. Speaking of life outside of work, I hope you can take some time off this summer, disconnect from work and really focus on those you love. I’m headed to Austin next week to spend a few days with my family and to celebrate the 4th of July. It’s hot and no rain down there which means no fireworks this year. But oh well, when my family gets together someone usually sparks conversational fireworks!
Given the holiday week, you won’t hear from me next Friday. I hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday. Happy fourth of July!
With much appreciation and gratitude,
P.S., Please post for staff who do not have regular access to email.
