Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday, and Happy New Year!

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season with your friends and loved ones. The new year is traditionally a time to set goals and make resolutions. This year, I want to encourage you to invest in your professional growth and development. The desire for career development support was a key finding in our employee survey, so I am excited to tell you about a great new resource. Thanks to the efforts of our colleagues in Organizational Learning, you can now utilize LinkedIn Learning’s library of more than 10,000 free online professional development courses – How awesome! The courses offer expert-led training that you can take at your own pace, with tools and features to fit almost any learning style. You can learn more by visiting the UHR website.

January is also the time when our campus comes together to honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., at our annual MLK Symposium on January 20th. In addition to the main event at Hill Auditorium (which will also be livestreamed), I invite you to participate in lectures, live performances, exhibits, workshops and community service projects happening across campus. I hope you will consider participating in this wonderful annual U-M tradition. Learn more on our MLK website.

Last, but not least, I want to share the U-M FY2019 Annual Report. The university’s financial health remains very strong. The net position increased by $523 million in fiscal year 2019 to $14.8 billion. The key drivers for this growth were generous donor gifts to our endowment and excellent investment returns. By ensuring the university’s financial health, we are able to invest in our core missions of education, research and patient care. Please join me in thanking all the teams across B&F who are involved in the financial stewardship of our university. Y’ALL ROCK!!!
