From Kevin’s Desk: Gratitude at Work, Recognizing Long Service (12/02/16)

Dear B&F Colleague,

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday. My family had a wonderful time in Austin celebrating both Thanksgiving and a milestone birthday for my wife, Betty. While Thanksgiving is behind us, both Chief Investment Officer Erik Lundberg and Associate Vice President Hank Baier have reminded our senior leadership team in recent weeks about the value of taking time during the day to reflect on what you are grateful for in life.

In fact, as studied by our own Ross School of Business colleagues, experiencing and expressing gratitude can provide measurable improvements in your mood and health, as well as increased performance at work. Cultivating gratitude helps us be a great place to work, which is one of our four strategic goals. I’m going to focus on this in my own daily activities as well as sign up for Active U starting on December 6. I hope you will join me.

On December 8 we will thank Regent Larry Deitch for 24 years of dedicated service as a regent of the University of Michigan. Our campus is a much better place because of his long service and steady guiding hand. It also reminds me of how thankful I am for so many of you who have also given long dedicated service to this amazing institution.

I have really enjoyed hearing from you and as always, I welcome your input. Feel free to email me with comments or questions, or use this link.

Best regards,

Kevin P. Hegarty
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
University of Michigan
