This week we celebrated the birth of our great nation. In the midst of the traditional barbecues and fireworks displays, the 4th of July always makes me reflect on the values we share as Americans. The idea that all people deserve the chance to pursue their dreams and develop their potential is embedded in our American ethos. As a university community, we believe access to education is central to this notion of opportunity. That’s why we recently announced the Go Blue Guarantee.
If you haven’t heard about it, the guarantee is a public commitment to provide up to four years of free tuition for admitted students from Michigan whose family income is $65,000 or less. The effort simplifies the way we talk about financial aid, making it easier for high-achieving students from lower-income backgrounds to know what financial support they can expect from U-M.
I am so proud of our commitment to need-based support for students, and especially proud of the financial stewardship so many of you in B&F provide to make programs like the Go Blue Guarantee possible. Thanks for all you do to make the dream of attending the University of Michigan a reality for more families, regardless of income. Go Blue!
With much appreciation and gratitude,
