Dear B&F Colleague,
Over the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, but nothing compares to the vibrancy and energy present on a college campus. One of our responsibilities here in B&F is to support the physical infrastructure of this dynamic, engaged community. I’m excited to announce an infrastructure project that will involve and impact many of us.
Yesterday the Board of Regents approved a renovation to the historic Ruthven Museums Building, which is located on the curve where Geddes Avenue becomes North University Avenue. The renovation will add auditorium space, active learning classrooms, laboratories and central administration space. Once the renovation is complete, the administration located in the Fleming Building will be relocated to Ruthven. The Fleming Building is too costly repair and maintain, and will be demolished.
The project presents us with an exciting opportunity to reuse and preserve a landmark building, and to design workspaces that reflect today’s working styles, particularly looking forward to more accessible, open and collaborative spaces. Much more detail will be available as the project gets underway.
On a different note, as we begin the holiday season, I want to offer a quick reminder of our policy regarding vendor gifts. As university employees, we should not accept gifts from vendors or potential vendors, but rather, see that they get diverted to local charities if at all possible. For your reference, the full policy and drop off locations can be found on the B&F website.
I have really enjoyed hearing from you and as always, I welcome your input. Feel free to email me with comments or questions, or use this link.
