Summer is a time many of us associate with a more relaxed schedule. But for many teams across B&F, summer means the end of the fiscal year—and that means they’re busier than ever! For example, the SSC’s Accounts Payable team processed 33,675 transactions during the month of June, an average of 1,604 per day! Finance’s Accounting Operations and Financial Reporting teams and the SSC’s Accounting Customer Service team are busy closing the books for FY18, which is a very demanding process that will continue into October. You can read more about the critical work these teams do to steward the university’s financial resources on our B&F website. Please join me in thanking them for all they do — YOU FOLKS ROCK!
And speaking of great work, recently I had the pleasure of visiting with the Supplier Management team at the SSC, who manage the supplier ID’s for individuals and companies that are used to place orders and pay invoices. They also verify that vendors to be paid are legitimate, which helps ensure the university only pays vendors to whom it actually owes money. One thing that really impressed me during this visit was their team culture, which includes having fun at work! They have themed potlucks (a Harry Potter potluck was up next!), they’ve created games to make their work more fun, and they constantly look for ways to support each other and build connections. It was a terrific example of the kind of positive culture we’re working to create! I want to thank them for inviting me to spend time with them and share their thoughts and experiences. YOU FOLKS ROCK, TOO!!!
While we didn’t have a Harry Potter potluck, the B&F executive team did spend some quality time together yesterday at our annual retreat. No matter your job, work is always better when you know and trust your colleagues. I am so thankful and fortunate to get to work with such amazing people, and I am so excited about our ongoing efforts across all areas of B&F to build a positive and inclusive work environment.
I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July. While perhaps not perfect, we are all fortunate to live in such a great country and work at such a great university!
Thanks for all YOU do to make the university great.
With much appreciation and gratitude
