One of the ways we promote our values of diversity, equity and inclusion is by offering educational activities designed to broaden our individual and collective understanding of DEI issues. For the last couple years, in honor of Black History Month, our colleagues in Finance have put together a terrific event, with posters, videos, poetry, and artifacts to help us learn about and celebrate the notable work of numerous Black Americans. This year, the Finance DEI team moved the event online so we could all experience the event remotely. I encourage you to check out this fantastic and highly informative website, and please share the link with others!
In addition, our colleagues at the SSC celebrated Black History Month by holding virtual Jeopardy sessions on topics related to African American history, sharing poetry and information through emails, and challenging their staff with a “Guess Who Challenge” related to famous African Americans. Check it out and test your own knowledge!
Thanks to everyone who has participated in the B&F Spice Drive for the Maize and Blue Cupboard. If you haven’t already, there is still time to get involved (our campaign runs through March 19). For those of you who aren’t on campus, you can make monetary donations to the Cupboard online or you can send a spice or two directly to the Cupboard from Amazon or another online retailer. Your support will help ensure that our university community members in need have the necessary ingredients to make a comforting meal. It’s also a wonderful way to build your compassion and kindness muscles– two essential ingredients in a positive organization. Talk to your local positive energizers for more details!
With much appreciation and gratitude,
