From Kevin’s Desk: Coming Together as a Community (6/14/19)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

We are so fortunate to belong to a community where we are often encouraged to share ideas that support our organization’s growth and change. At the upcoming Staff Community Conversations, you are invited to share ideas and experiences as they relate to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Your contributions to this important conversation will not only help us continue our diversity, equity, and inclusion journey, but will also support our work to create a positive organizational culture. I encourage you to attend one of these sessions to offer your ideas, share your experiences, and get to know your colleagues.

Another way you can share with our community is by redistributing excess and/or unneeded office supplies. Our colleagues at the Office of Campus Sustainability, in partnership with Waste Management Services and Property Disposition, have organized the Office Supply Reuse Days. Gently used office supplies collected from U-M departments are made available at no cost to other departments and local nonprofits – all while supporting the university’s waste reduction goal! So, if you haven’t done your spring cleaning, now is the time to do it!

Speaking of sustainability, did you see that three U-M buildings won statewide awards for energy reduction? Our Office of Campus Sustainability Energy Management staff work with facility managers, other F&O staff, and building occupants to save energy, often generating substantial improvements. All of us across B&F can contribute to energy conservation in many ways, such as by turning off lights and unplugging devices that aren’t in use. A huge thank you to our Office of Campus Sustainability Energy Management team and all the teams working to support the sustainability goals of our U-M community!  YOU ROCK!!!

With the Ann Arbor Summer Festival starting today (through July 7) and the Nichols Arboretum Peony Garden finally in full bloom, there are lots of ways to connect with family, friends and the Ann Arbor community this weekend. I hope you are remembering to spend time with your loved ones during these summer months.

With much appreciation and gratitude,

P.S., Please post for staff who don’t have regular access to email
