I can hardly believe it’s November already! Next week marks two important events. First, I want to encourage you to attend the campuswide Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Summit, including a Community Assembly with President Schlissel on November 8, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Rackham Auditorium. You can see the full schedule of next week’s events and activities on our website.
Second, we will celebrate our annual campus Veteran’s Week, featuring a number of events and activities that culminate next Friday, with an ROTC flag raising on Veteran’s Day. As a former Air Force kid, I have a special place in my heart for our nation’s veterans. My father proudly served in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and I know firsthand the sacrifice that our military make to serve our country. I hope you’ll consider attending one of the events next week, and please join me in offering a huge THANK YOU to the more than 100 veterans on our B&F staff for their service.
If last Friday’s rain deterred you from attending the bicentennial HAILstorm show, then you should definitely watch a recap online – it was amazing! I also really want to encourage you to check out the new public artwork, “Arriving Home,” which is dedicated to university staff. The piece was made possible by a generous gift from our own Jagdish Janveja and is installed on the East University Mall. It is absolutely beautiful and serves as a reminder to everyone how important staff members have been and are today to the success of this great institution. Orchestrated by Voices of the Staff, this incredible tribute to our staff is one of the many projects highlighted in the Voices of the Staff annual report. I am so grateful for the work of our own Voices of the Staff…you folks ROCK!
Thanks for all you do to make this university great.
With much appreciation and gratitude,
