From Kevin’s Desk: Blue Couldn’t Be Great Without You! (05/11/18)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

I am thrilled that although it’s been almost a year since MSTAFF200, the party of the century is still being recognized as arguably THE BEST event of the Bicentennial celebration. Recently U-M received the Association of Collegiate College Events Director’s International Institutional Achievement Award for MSTAFF200. And on Monday, the MSTAFF200 lead team was awarded the 2018 President’s Staff Innovation Award. The award recognizes co-chairs Tina Jordan and Tim Kennedy, along with the MSTAFF200 planning team, for coordinating the first-ever celebration in honor of all university staff, former and present. Tina, Tim, and many of the planning team and volunteers are our B&F colleagues. How great is that!!

In addition, our Benefits Office colleague Betty Thomas was honored as a finalist for the President’s Staff Innovation Award for her work to improve the accessibility of retirement information through the innovative use of technology. I am so pleased, but not surprised, that so many of our team members have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to our campus.

Please join me in congratulating ALL of these award winners on these wonderful and much-deserved recognitions – You Folks ROCK!

Now that the weather is (finally!) getting warmer, I want to encourage you to make time to get outside and enjoy it.  Research shows that taking short breaks throughout the workday to recharge will not only increase your productivity, it will also improve your overall quality of life. Nothing recharges my batteries more than walking around our beautiful campus in the sunshine, which I do often at this time of year. If you see me, I hope you will say Hi!

Don’t forget that Sunday is Mother’s Day.  We all have a mother and/or know someone who is a mother.  Take the time this weekend to show your appreciation for motherhood.

Thanks for all you do to make this university great – it would not be great without your dedicated work to Make Blue Go!

With much appreciation and gratitude,

Kevin
