From Kevin’s Desk: A positive culture begins with you (10/5/18)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

One of the most exciting things about our work to create a positive organization is just how many unique efforts are happening across B&F. For example, all Finance employees recently received a mouse pad that displays their team values, providing a daily reminder about the culture they’re working to create. In addition, Finance leaders have been participating in a custom training on positive leadership that draws on research from the Ross Center for Positive Organizations. One thing we can each do every day to create a positive workplace is to focus on kindness. Our MHealthy colleagues are here to help with the “Be Kind Be Well” campaign, which encourages all university employees to practice kindness, compassion and gratitude. This simple focus can improve your mood, build trust and community, and increase creativity! I encourage everyone to join me in taking the kindness pledge and adding at least one gratitude-related activity to your life. I truly believe that it’s the little things we do each day – saying thank you, offering to help, making someone feel welcome – that create big changes over time. Thank you to MHealthy for helping each of us build more positive habits.

Lastly, yesterday I attended the President’s annual leadership breakfast, where he shared an update on the state of the university and talked about his strategic priorities. At these kinds of events, I am always blown away by the incredible work that happens across our campus and the wide-ranging impact that this university is making in the world. During the Q&A, the President noted that the staff of the university are committed, have the best ideas for running the university, and are the glue that holds it all together.
