From Kevin’s Desk: A Positive and Safe Organization (05/24/19)

Dear Colleagues:

Happy Friday!

One of the most important parts of a positive work environment is ensuring the safety of our people. For our F&O colleagues in construction, maintenance, and cleaning, preventing falls is particularly important. Earlier this month, F&O held a week of safety-focused activities on fall prevention and a wide range of other topics, called the “safety stand down.” You can read more about the events on our B&F website. Thanks to our colleagues in F&O for reinforcing a culture of workplace safety for their teams and everyone on our campus – YOU FOLKS ROCK!!

As a campus community, we are also committed to making U-M safe and supportive for everyone by asking all faculty and staff to complete the new training called Cultivating a Culture of Respect: Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Awareness by December 2019. The online module provides information on how to maintain a respectful workplace free from sexual harassment and misconduct, resources on reporting, and techniques on how to intervene and provide support when necessary. Please be sure to set aside about 15 minutes to complete this mandatory training before the end of the year – I’ve already completed it myself.

Lastly, I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. In addition to kicking off summer, it’s a time to remember the men and women who have given their lives while serving our country. As an Air Force kid myself, I know firsthand the sacrifices that our service members make to keep us all safe and to preserve the freedoms we all enjoy. I want to extend a special thank you to all our B&F veterans, and wish everyone a happy and safe holiday.

With much appreciation and gratitude,
