I am thrilled that the University of Michigan has been recognized as a great place to work by the Chronicle of Higher Education for the tenth straight year. This recognition points to something very important to me – our shared commitment to making this a supportive and inclusive work environment. I want to give a special shout-out to the teams involved with benefits and compensation, whose efforts got special recognition from the Chronicle!
One group that helps make this a great place to work is our Work Connections team in Finance. These nurses, case managers and dedicated staff have helped thousands of our university colleagues over the last 20 years. When an illness or injury prevents an individual from working, Work Connections acts as a liaison with other programs and services to help coordinate everything from health care to a supportive return-to-work process. Work Connections is an amazing resource and I am glad to know they’ll be there to help if I (or you) ever need them! Be sure to check out their new website.
We are at the mid-point of summertime and Art Fair is here! Please don’t let the summer pass without taking time off to enjoy your loved ones. Betty and I enjoyed The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village last weekend. If you haven’t visited, I highly recommend it!
I’m taking a couple of weeks off during the first part of August. Like last year, I plan on turning off my email. I am always available by phone for those who need to reach me. I strongly encourage you to do the same when you’re on vacation. I think you will find it gives you a great mental vacation from your daily routine. Remember, just like cars, “breaks” will make you go faster, too!
With much appreciation and gratitude,
